My brain just immediately tried to rotate his arm 90 degrees and make it a Freddie Mercury reference <3

Very nice. :) Is that scarification on his arm?

A bleak tattoo, I would think. But scarification is a good idea, would be difficult for me to render though.

Now that I think about it, I know Dunmer women scarify their faces, but I don't recall seeing it on men. I wonder if there's lore on that?

There are scarification lines on many face models in morrowind, those are usually pale dots on brow ridges and forehead, sometimes cheeks. Later while making skyrim they misinterpreted it as freakishly pronounced  brow ridges, probably because original textures had low resolution. There is no lore on that, one can only speculate that it is more archaic tradition of dunmer.

Your right; after making the statement I looked it up and noticed that there were indeed Dunmer men with scarification--though not as extensively, generally, as the women. My first reaction would be to suspect that it's more an Ashlander tradition, but one certainly sees plenty of those faces in towns and cities.

Great work man. I'm wondering, are there any artists that particularly influenced your painting style ?

Lots of them, it's just a never-ending process of learning, borrowing and blatantly ripping off). The core influence are of course Old Masters; contemporary artists: Jason Manley, Justin Sweet, Vance Kovacs. After the overall design of this particular picture was ready I saw this: aldok.deviantart.com/art/Manic… and started to accentuate texture with twirly linework, which helps to create synergy within different parts of the painting.

True, I keep open tens of paintings from other artists while doing my own work. Sometimes it feels like what I do is the sum of my understanding of the pieces that inspire me, though it's never really a full understanding, hence errors ;).  Only recently I've discovered Ludwig Deutsch oil paintings and was mind blown by his attention to detail, check him out if you have a moment.

wow, I like how the artist exaggerates textures on creatures/characters, and his stylized proportions are just pure awesome. Now you've got me thinking how I could incorporate elements of his style to my own :)
